Wine making is all about knowing what you are working with. Arthur and Mandy Jones at Jones Winery & Vineyard in Rutherglen let the grapes do the talking. This brother and sister team are passionate about the land and products they produce from it. Their tiny boutique winery has a multitude of things going for it; international expertise, (Mandy spent 14 years working in Bordeaux), 110 year old dry land vineyard, a charming old brick barn with a bark-lined ceiling and century old fermenting vats. Not forgetting their delightful French themed Cafe. Established in 1860 Jones Winery & Vineyard was acquired by the Jones family in 1927. With a real sense of belonging to the land along with that special feeling of working in the same place as their grandfather and grandmother their wines reflect not only their experiences but that of their past... elegant table wines and some new styled fortifieds are features. Jones Winery & Vineyard wines are produced entirely from estate grown fruit. These wines include their highly acclaimed 'LJ', made from old vine shiraz and grenache, marsanne, malbec and durif as well as fortifieds such as their unique 'Apero' and 'Classic Muscat'. Jones The Winemaker wines are made from grapes grown by specially selected growers. Adjoining the cellar door, the café serves food themed on those wonderful simple dishes found in french cafés. Using seasonal local ingredients they serve dishes such as boeuf bourgignon, croque monsieur and Crème Caramel. The café offers you the chance to relax and enjoy handcrafted wines accompanied by classic food prepared by chef Kate Akrap. When he is not running around the vineyard Arthur is running after his grass fed Murray Greys. Other attractions include Helen Hay's garden art, sculptures made from recycled farm implements.
